Celebration of Our Poetry – A Meeting of the Arts

On Saturday, poetry lovers gathered once again at the Red Hat Yard for the Harag György Company’s event, which unfolded through the uplifting intersection of literature, visual arts, music, and gastronomy.

The event began with the award ceremony for the treasure hunt organized by the Satu Mare Hungarian Student Council. The participants, who had set out two hours earlier, had to solve literary and poetry-related tasks at various locations, with the final stop being the Red Hat Yard.

Following tradition, as part of the official opening, István Bessenyei Gedő, the company’s artistic director, read poems, creating an opportunity for participants to engage in their own readings of favorite or original poems during the intervals between structured program points.
 

Next, the spotlight was on the youth: members of the Szamos Student Literary Circle read poems by students from the anthology Felhőfoszlányok (“Cloud Fragments”). Participants also met Zsolt Karácsonyi and Zalán Nagy, poets from the literary journal Halikon, who were interviewed by the artistic director about contemporary poetry. This was followed by a concert by Én Duó (Johanna Bertóti and András Páll), featuring experimental musical twists and celebrating contemporary poetry.
A poetic quiz challenged the audience, with quizmaster Zsolt KoZsó Kovács testing not only literary knowledge but also general cultural awareness among the teams.

 

At 8 PM, the evening featured a truly special multi-sensory concert: Benji Horváth performed slam poetry accompanied by Fluidian on a creatively varied guitar, forming the Psychedelic Soul Poetry production. The event concluded with DJ Ronco (Áron Telegdy), whose unique music crowned the celebration.

The organizers also upheld a cherished tradition: poets were honored through tasting their favorite dishes. Attendees sampled stuffed eggs inspired by Petőfi, chicken stew presented in the form of Hortobágyi pancakes, and honey pastries reflecting the favorites of other poets.

During the program, students Hannelore Farkas, Stefánia Bálint, and Dávid Barbu from the Aurel Popp Music and Visual Arts High School, along with actors Máté Erdei and Gergő Frumen from the Harag György Company, each created a piece of art inspired by Attila József’s poem Óda. These artworks were later auctioned, raising 1,100 lei, which the organizers donated to Asprosam, an association supporting mental health.
