Musical Comedies and Musicals in the New Theatre Season

The Harag György Company welcomes theatre-goers in the 2026/2027 season with unchanged subscription prices and a varied repertoire. Sales of subscriptions for the new season have already begun. Those who held a subscription in the previous season can purchase their four-performance subscription at the theatre box office on Horea Street. Their seats will be held by the audience organizers until September 23, after which they will be made available to new subscribers.

Rehearsals for the first production included in the subscription series are already well underway, and, according to plan, the musical comedy Testosterone, directed by Árpád Barabás, will premiere on September 23. This contemporary comedy, filled with riotous humor and outspoken dialogue, explores relationships between men and women, love, infidelity, and the eternal dilemmas of masculinity through the unusual encounter of seven men. In this production, members of the company will once again take up their musical instruments. On October 9, the company will present Revulsion, a stage adaptation of László Németh’s novel of the same title, which tells the story of an unusual marriage strained by passions and inner conflicts. Produced in co-production with the Gyula Castle Theatre, the production premiered in Hungary in August, directed by István K. Szabó.

The musical comedy, which will also be performed on New Year’s Eve, will premiere on December 28 and will, naturally, also be included among the productions available through the subscription series. The production The Honourable House is directed by Zoltán Lendvai. In the musical comedy, Vera Halmi publicly accuses Representative Takács, who speaks in Parliament in the name of morality, of seducing a minor. Takács wants to clear his name, so the two repeatedly find themselves in front of the cameras, as the press follows them in order to bring the continuation of their “romance” to its readers.

Adult subscription holders can also choose from the productions already premiered: Passion and Loyalty (directed by Miklós Tóth-Páll), The Nora Project (directed by Gergő Frumen), and Kohlhaas (directed by Marcel Bélai), as well as from new productions not included in the other subscription series. István Albu, who received a UNITER Award for Richard III, staged with the company, will bring a stage adaptation of the novel One Hundred Years of Solitude to Satu Mare. A legendary musical is also returning: this time, The attic  will be directed by Eszter Márkó. The productions available for selection also include the forthcoming The Fifth Seal, directed by Marcel Bélai.

Those purchasing a subscription for premieres will once again receive an additional production this year: the “Ács Alajos” subscription also includes Dance of Fools, a production of the Tamási Áron Theatre in Sfântu Gheorghe, also directed by Marcel Bélai.
Holders of the patron subscription may attend any of the productions, subject to prior arrangement.
